About

I am a specialist in the visual culture of the Italian renaissance and currently working on a number of projects - including an article and an edited book that attempts to provoke a rethinking of the "high" renaissance, and a monograph on nakedness and the development of the artistic nude in renaissance Italy. I'm also getting increasingly interested in considering contemporary applications of knowledge about the renaissance, the renaissance body in particular.

I'm the research projects director of the new Edinburgh Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and enjoy working collaboratively with collegues here in Edinburgh and beyond.
