My thesis focuses on the problem if the epistemic gap entails a metaphysical gap between the mental and the physical. I argue that it does not. To this extent my proposal is in agreement with the so-called phenomenal concept strategy claiming that the epistemic gap is due to a conceptual gap between scientific concepts and special phenomenal concepts. However, I do not defend phenomenal concept strategy. Instead, I propose an alternative approach which rather than relying on some conceptual features concentrates on characteristics of sensory representations and cognitive access.
