About
Originally from Baltimore, Will came to Edinburgh in 1996 to study Scottish Gaelic linguistics after a formative year at St. FX University in Nova Scotia. Upon finishing his PhD in 2002 (U. of Edinburgh), Will worked for many years in Uist, running the Traditional Music and Scottish Gaelic courses at Lews Castle College Benbecula (UHI). He is currently investigating issues of register in Scottish Gaelic traditional narrative, and is editing a scholarly edition of an out-of-print book on puirt-à-beul, or Gaelic 'mouth-music'. Outside of his lecturing and research, Will is regularly in-demand for his musical skills, and he has engineered and accompanied many of Scotland's top traditional musicians.
